Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Donella is a one-year-old sweetheart with long legs, a gentle soul, and serious zoomie potential. When she gets going, you might hear “ she’s a runner, she’s a track star ” playing in your head—and you wouldn’t be wrong! This young girl loves other dogs and would thrive with a canine sibling (or two!) or even a whole pack. Running, chasing, wrestling, and playing hide-and-seek with her dog friends are some of her favorite activities. A fenced yard or regular access to a dog park would be a dream come true for her energy-filled days. Donella is also cat friendly—she has a healthy respect for them and knows when to give space. She’s naturally sweet, shy, and submissive, especially with other animals, but don’t let that fool you. Once she feels safe, her silly, playful personality shines through. She’s already gained confidence tackling stairs and continues to surprise her foster family with how quickly she learns. She’s almost fully potty trained, does a great job not chewing things she shouldn’t, and while she doesn’t love being kenneled, she will settle after a little protest. On leash, she’s still learning her manners but does not pull and shows great potential with continued practice. Donella’s favorite place? Near her people. She prefers to be close, quietly keeping you company or joining in on whatever fun is happening. Her foster mom lovingly calls her Donut, and it fits—she’s soft, sweet, and impossible not to love. If you’re looking for a young, energetic dog with a gentle heart, a playful streak, and lots of love to give, Donella might just be your perfect match. Ready to meet your new best friend? Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
