Dog Breed: Shih Tzu (long coat). Adoption Fee: 325 plus sales tax. We are an all-volunteer/foster home-based rescue. We DO NOT have a physical shelter. Fill out the form by clicking on the picture of the computer screen with our logo on it. Hi! I'm Thor. I came to Dakota Dachshund Rescue as a stray from the Humane Society. I was a mess, I can't see, I can't hear, my fur was a matted mess :( I feel so much better now that I have had a spa day with Amy, my foster mom Teresa got me a sweater to make me feel safe and she is putting ointment in my eyes as I don't have much tear production of my own. She gives me good food and a soft bed.... I just love this being care for :) I do need a fenced yard as I can't see and I can't hear so I wouldn't know if I was walking out in the street or if another animal was coming after me. Can you love and protect me? Give me my furever home? I am Thor! I am estimated to be 6 years old, I could be a bit older. My adoption fee is $325 plus sales tax $14.63-$339.63 My adoption fee help with my vetting needs such as HW test, rabies, DHPPL, Bordetella, neuter, dental and microchipping.

The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella.
