Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Groot is a 4-year-old male, neutered German Shepherd looking for a loving new home. He is a friendly, people-loving dog who enjoys adventures, car rides, and playing fetch. Groot has a great balance of energy, he loves being active, but he is just as happy relaxing on the couch (or his own bed) with his family. He knows several commands including sit, down (lying fully down), shake, wait, and out, and generally listens well, though he does have a bit of the independent spirit typical of German Shepherds. Groot enjoys greeting people and loves attention while head pats are one of his favorite things. He is house-trained and very comfortable around food; he has never shown any issues with people being near him while he eats. His ideal home would likely be with an active individual or couple who can spend quality time with him whether that means going on walks, visiting the dog park, or simply relaxing together at home. While Groot can get along with other dogs, we believe he would do best as the only dog in the household, as he really enjoys one-on-one time and attention with his people. Groot is a wonderful companion who will thrive in a home that can give him the time, love, and activity he deserves.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
