Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Terrier. Say hello to Mikey, a sweet, playful, sensitive bundle of joy! When Mikey first arrived at the shelter, he was feeling a little unsure about the world and whether people could be trusted. Thankfully, a wonderful foster home opened its arms to Mikey, and that's where we really got to see his true, sweet, goofy personality bloom. In foster care, Mikey formed a very special, trusting bond with one family member. Though he was able to interact and spend time with everyone, it was clear that Mikey loves having his person. Someone he can trust deeply and stick close to. Once Mikey trusts you, you'll have a devoted sidekick for life who is a ball of energy, loves zooming around, tossing toys, and having fun times with his favorite person. Mikey is still building his confidence and would prefer quiet neighborhood walks rather than busy streets. Mikey would do best in a calm household without lots of visitors or big gatherings to help him feel safe and relaxed. Because Mikey appreciates gentle, respectful interactions, he would do best in a home with children 10 and older. One thing that brings Mikey instant joy? Other small dogs! He enjoys spending time playing and hanging out with his canine friends. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will form a deep bond and bring plenty of playful moments. Mikey is your guy! Mikey is currently available by appointment only. Please call (831) 708-5842 to learn more about him and schedule an appointment to meet your potential new best friend!

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
