Description
Dog Breed: West Highland White Terrier Westie / Mixed. Adoption Fee: $350. Meet Winston – Proof That Love Doesn’t Need Perfect Sight Winston is a 7-year-old, 24 lb Westie mix with a heart bigger than his body. This sweet, neutered boy is fully up to date on his vaccinations and ready to find a forever home where he can shine. Winston is almost blind due to cataracts, but don’t tell him that — it certainly doesn’t slow him down! He has beautifully adapted to his world and navigates with confidence. He loves playing with his favorite toy and then curling up right next to his favorite human for snuggles. He’s the definition of a cuddle bug. He is house and crate-trained, making him an easy addition to a loving home. Winston is dog friendly but his compatibility with cats is unknown. Because of his limited vision, Winston would do best in a calm home without young children who might accidentally startle him. A predictable environment where he can learn the layout will help him feel secure and thrive. Winston may see the world a little differently, but he feels love in the biggest way. If you’re looking for a resilient, affectionate, and joyful companion who will bond deeply and love you endlessly, Winston is ready to meet you. Could you be the safe haven this special boy deserves? Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
