The application is the first step in the adoption process, so if you are interested in adopting please fill out the online adoption application first by visiting our website at .dachshundpaws Jack is a 7 year old, Dachshund and Chihuahua mix. Jack was adopted as a puppy from the rescue. Jack was doing great until his family grew by a couple of children. Jack does not like the commotion and started acting out. Jack gets along with other dogs, but since being an only dog his whole life, he does prefer to be an only child. Jack is looking for a quiet home, where he can be treated like a prince. He loves attention. Jack is fine when you are away, he just takes a nap and waits for you to return. Jack is looking for a family to love him forever! Jack's adoption fee: $100 We do not have a kennel or facility to visit, all dogs are kept in foster homes until their forever homes are found. Adoption Process: Once an approved application is on file, we will then set up a home visit. At that time we will bring the dog to the home in which you will all be sharing. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
