Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Husky. Courtesy Post – Seeking a New Home Please note: Vegas and Safari are not at the shelter. This is a courtesy post to help the owner find a safe and appropriate new home. All inquiries should be directed to the owner, not Yolo County Animal Services. Meet Vegas and Safari, a bonded pair of female dogs looking for a new home together. Vegas is a Shepherd mix (about 4 years old) and Safari is a Husky (about 3 years old). They have grown up side-by-side and share a close bond, so their owner is hoping to find a home that can welcome both dogs together. Connor-Irias (1) Their owner has had them for 3–4 years after adopting them through a friend. Due to unexpected life changes and housing challenges, the owner is no longer able to safely keep them and is hoping to find a stable, loving home for them. Connor-Irias (1) Both dogs have lived indoors and outdoors, and they are potty trained and crate trained. They allow people to take food or toys from them without issue and have no history of biting. Connor-Irias (1) Vegas has natural guard-dog tendencies and may bark or growl at strangers approaching the home, but she shows no physical aggression and is good at reading social cues. Once she sees that someone is welcome, she warms up quickly. Safari, on the other hand, is described as extremely friendly and trusting with everyone she meets. Connor-Irias (1) They are friendly with children and generally get along well with other dogs. They have never started fights, though Vegas may react if another dog shows aggression. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
