Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Amos came to us as an emaciated, one year old pup from a busy highway in Georgia. The family that plucked him from the streets was not able to care for him, so my son and I decided to foster him until his medical treatments were complete. Amos has successfully undergone heartworm treatment, had all his initial vaccines, and has filled out nicely. He is still intact, but should be eligible for surgery by April. Amos's big energy and exuberant love for people are perfectly suited for an active individual(s) or family with older children. He loves to give hugs, burrow his head in your lap, and snuggle up to sleep at night. He is very smart, food motivated, and eager to please. Amos has excellent recall and knows basic commands like "sit", "wait", "stay", and "okay". **** Breed: Coon hound mix **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2194863&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
