She loves running around with toys in her mouth especially if she can steal them from the dryer. Oh, and she’ll help you pull stuff out of the dryer but she won’t help you fold them, that’s up to you but she’s off with a sock or anything she can get her mouth on and then the chase is on. It’s hard to believe that she is a retired breeder dog as friendly as she is but understand she will still need help with housebreaking and learning to walk on a leash. If you have the patience and want to add some spice into your life then she would be perfect for you! Our must haves for Rudy are: A fenced in yard Someone that can be home more than not Another small adult playful dog that doesn’t mind her stealing their toys No apartments, high rises or condos If you are interested in giving Rudy her last home than it’s important that you fill out the online adoption application right away because she won’t last long we can promise you that, oh and she loves attention and is a bit of an attention hog. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
