Name: Otis Sex: Male Estimated Age: About 9 months old Best Guess for Breed: Pit Mix Weight: About 30 lbs Lives With: Dogs and all people! He’s also passed a cat test! Housebroken? He’s potty trained. Story: Otis was found as a stray in Annapolis and had been housed in the Annapolis SPCA since December 24, 2025. He had a bite mark on his leg when they found him but he is fully healed. What my foster says: I volunteer as a runner for the SPCA group that takes out active dogs to a local park for runs. I had Otis as my dog a couple of weeks ago and he did so well on the run. He pulled a bit for the first mile and then settled in nicely. He was curious about everything but in a good way and not reactive to any dogs, kids, bikes, etc. that we saw along our way. I offered to foster him to give him some time in a home and he has been doing so well. He is a cuddler and is so happy to snuggle and be petted. He loves playing with our dog and is so excited to go on walks. He pulls a bit and could use a little leash work but he appears to be a quick learner. He already has learned sit and we are working on stay. I work from home and he settles nicely while I am at my desk. An incredibly sweet little guy. His coloring is like a cow pattern which is so cute. If you are looking for a little pittie, Otis is your guy. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
