Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. Meet Montana, a 4-year-old Blue Heeler with a big heart and a loyal spirit. She weighs about 58 pounds right now but could stand to slim down a bit—her ideal weight is likely closer to 40 pounds. With a little more activity and a consistent routine, she’ll be well on her way to feeling her best. Montana is a friendly, affectionate girl who warms up quickly and loves being close to her people. She enjoys being pet, going on short walks, and riding in the car. At home she’s more on the low-energy side and is happy to lounge nearby, but she would benefit from regular exercise to help her reach a healthier weight. True to her breed, Montana sometimes tries to “herd” her people when she wants attention and will happily press her face into you for more pets. She loves companionship and tends to follow her humans around the house like a quiet, loyal shadow. In the home she is fully house-trained and well-mannered—no chewing or counter surfing. She can be a bit enthusiastic at doorways and may dart out if given the chance, and she’s still learning leash manners (she pulls), but she is very treat-motivated and eager to learn, which makes training a fun opportunity for bonding. Montana does well with other dogs and has been living with a canine companion. She can occasionally show some resource-guarding tendencies, particularly around food or exciting moments like when the front door opens. In those situations she may try to push another dog out of the way or give a quick air snap as a warning, but she has never injured another dog. With proper introductions and mindful management around high-value items, she can successfully live with other dogs, especially ones who are respectful of space. Montana is looking for a home that can give her structure, patience, and a bit more activity to help her thrive. In return, she’ll give you devotion, companionship, and plenty of sweet face-nudging affection. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who just wants to be near her people, Montana may be the perfect match. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $200. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
