Description
Dog Breed: Shih Tzu (long coat). Jax is very shy and needs a patient person or couple that is willing to bring him out of his shell. Having been owned by a single person, he is not used to chaos and chooses to hide when it arises. He probably would do well in a home with no young dogs or kids for this reason. He retreats to hide in his crate, corner or anywhere he feels safe, even when outside if he senses uncertainty. He loves to be petted and will fall asleep next to you if you pet him. He is lovable. He would love to be an only dog or would be okay with an older dog that didn’t require his attention. I don’t believe he would bother a cat, although, it had not been tested. Please visit our website for more info on our adoption process and adoption application .barkdogfarm . Please be sure all family members are in agreement to adopting and your family is ready to bring dog home now. Applicants must be at least 21 years old. We do not have blanket criteria regarding adoptions. Each applicant is considered based on many things including but not limited to breed experience, yard ( visible fence preferred) and other animals in home. We try to avoid dogs with same sex households as pyrs typically do not do well with the same sex. A volunteer will be in touch to discuss your application and the dog to determine if it is a good match. Your vet and two references will be called. A virtual home visit done. Once approved a meet and greet at the farm will take place. If all are in agreement an adoption contract will be signed and adoption fee paid. Adoption fees for dogs are $500. for adults over 12 months, $600 for puppies 12 months and younger as well as small breed dogs. Fees for seniors, special needs or harder to place dogs will be determined by our Board of Directors. All dogs will be altered when adoption is finalized. This may involve young puppies be given until a certain age to be altered. Breed overview
Shih Tzu
A.K.A.: Lion Dog, Chrysanthemum Dog, Foo Dog, Xi Shi dog, Tibetan Temple Dog, Chinese Imperial Dog, Lhasa Lion Dog, Shitzu, Schipperke, Tzu, Shih Tzu Kou, Kou
Overview:
The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella. Despite these considerations, a Shih Tzu typically brings immense joy and companionship to their devoted owners.
