Kaya is an 18-month-old Cattle Dog / Shar Pei mix who was sadly left abandoned at a park, but you would never know it by her sweet and loving personality. She weighs about 46 lbs and has the most beautiful blue eyes that will melt your heart. Kaya is very friendly and dog-friendly, loves people, and enjoys spending time with her humans. She does great on a leash, knows “stay” and “down,” and is potty trained. She has done well with the run of the house but is also comfortable in a crate if needed. Like many young dogs, Kaya gets little bursts of energy (zoomies!), then happily crashes out for a nap. Outside of those short play sessions, she’s actually a pretty low-energy girl who just enjoys relaxing nearby. She loves toys, will fetch and retrieve, and can keep herself entertained. Her favorite things are belly rubs, playtime, and being close to her people. Kaya would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a sweet, loyal, playful dog with a calm side too. If you’d like to meet Kaya and give her the loving home she deserves, please reach out! For information on adopting her please email wendeesterlingtile

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
