Meet Blue – The Lovable Teddy Bear Aussie Looking for His Person Blue is a beautiful blue merle purebred Australian Shepherd with a heart that is just as big as his fluffy body. He’s the kind of dog people instantly fall in love with — affectionate, funny, and always ready to be the center of attention. Blue is a bigger boy, but he’s already lost several pounds since coming into foster care and only needs to lose about 6–8 more pounds. What he really needs now is a home that will give him regular exercise and an active lifestyle, and the weight will come off naturally. One of the most special things about Blue is how incredibly loving and people-oriented he is. He’s like a life-size teddy bear who just wants to hug everyone he meets. Rare for an Aussie, Blue absolutely loves people — men, women, and kids. In fact, before coming into rescue he served as an emotional support dog for children, and he truly thrives on affection and attention. He would make a wonderful companion for someone who wants a dog that enjoys being loved on and petted. Blue spent the first six years of his life as an only dog in a very loving home. He was surrendered only because of a sudden family emergency — not because of anything he did wrong. His family loved him dearly and miss him very much. Because he grew up as the center of someone’s world, Blue may actually be happiest as an only dog, which is unusual for Australian Shepherds. That said, he does great with dogs in social settings. He recently spent a morning running around at a large dog park and had a fantastic time playing and exploring. Blue knows several commands including sit, paw/shake, and lie down. He loves catching treats in the air and is very food motivated, which makes him fun to train. He enjoys playing fetch and chasing toys, although he sometimes prefers to grab a toy and run off to entertain himself. Blue is also a huge personality in a fluffy Aussie body. He talks, grumbles, makes funny noises, stretches dramatically, and rolls all over the grass, carpet, and bed like a happy goofball. He will absolutely keep you laughing. And yes — Blue is a kisser. If you love affectionate dogs who give kisses and lean into you for attention, Blue is your guy. He loves belly rubs, wiggle-butt scratches, and will happily plop himself into your lap even though he is convinced he’s much smaller than he actually is. We are looking for a home similar to the one Blue loved so much growing up. Blue’s ideal home: • Possibly as an only dog, or with a calm female dog • No cats • Dog-savvy kids 8+ years • A moderately active home that can give him exercise and attention Blue is affectionate, goofy, entertaining, and incredibly loving. He’s the kind of dog that fills a home with personality and joy. If you’re looking for a big, lovable Aussie who wants to be your best friend and constant companion, Blue may be the perfect match. Overview:
The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
