Description
Dog Breed: Rat Terrier (short coat). Meet Simba, an affectionate 4-year-old boy who weighs around 15 lbs. Simba is a well-mannered young boy: he's house-trained, sleeps quietly in his crate at night, and uses the dog door like a pro in his foster home. Simba loves wrestling with his canine foster sister and taking long walks, but he is equally happy curling up under a blanket. He's a true homebody and cuddlebug whose preferred activity is napping. He's a good car rider and is still working on his leash-walking manners. When Simba came into foster care, he had a terrible case of mange. He has since completely healed with his fur starting to grow back in. It takes Simba a while to warm up to new people, but once he adjusts, he will be your best friend. Overview:
The Rat Terrier is a lively and intelligent American breed, originally developed in the early 20th century from a mix of Fox Terriers, Old English White Terriers, and other small terriers, primarily for farm work and pest control. These compact yet sturdy dogs typically weigh between 10-25 pounds and stand 10-18 inches tall, boasting a short, smooth coat that comes in a variety of patterns, often with large patches of color over white. Known for their energetic and inquisitive nature, Rat Terriers are remarkably adaptable and affectionate, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. While their boundless energy necessitates regular exercise and mental stimulation, they can thrive in apartments provided their needs are met. Generally a healthy breed, they have a lifespan of 12-18 years, though some may be prone to patellar luxation or Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. Their friendly disposition and eagerness to please make them highly trainable and a joy to live with.
