If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Mel is a 4 month old female Havapoo who weighs in at 6 pounds. This pup's adoption fee is $850. If you are still interested, please read more below. Mel is a sweet, mellow, and incredibly cuddly puppy who loves being close to her people. She has a gentle, easygoing personality and is happiest when she’s snuggled up next to you or quietly following you around the house. With her cream coat and brown spots, she looks just like the puppy emoji, she’s truly as adorable in real life as she sounds! Mel has been wonderful with young children and is currently living with a two-year-old, who she is gentle and patient with. Her calm and affectionate nature makes her a great fit for a family environment. She has a beautiful, soft coat that will require regular grooming and daily brushing to keep it healthy and tangle-free. The good news is that Mel is very cooperative and calm during grooming, making the process easy and enjoyable. She is currently working on her potty training and crate training. Like most puppies her age, she is still learning routines but is doing excellent with consistency and positive reinforcement. She is smart, eager to learn new skills, and responds very well to gentle and positive guidance. Her name, Mel, means “honey,” which perfectly matches her sweet personality and loving temperament. Mel would do best in a home that can provide strong connection and companionship. She thrives on being close to her people, so her ideal family is one that can dedicate quality time to her and truly include her as part of the family. Mel is adjusting well to her new surroundings and continues to grow in confidence each day. She would thrive in a home that can offer love, patience, and structure as she continues to learn and blossom. This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. Overview:

The Havanese, the national dog of Cuba, is a charming and intelligent toy breed known for its cheerful disposition and luxurious coat. Descending from the Bichon family, these small but sturdy dogs were brought to Cuba by Spanish colonists and developed into the affectionate companions we know today. Physically, they boast a distinctive long, silky double coat that can come in a multitude of colors and patterns, often requiring regular grooming to prevent matting. With their expressive dark eyes and plumed tail carried over their back, Havanese possess a captivating charm. Temperamentally, they are renowned for being outgoing, affectionate, and highly trainable, thriving on human companionship. This makes them excellent family pets and well-suited for apartment living, as they are adaptable and don't require extensive outdoor space. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of breed-specific concerns such as luxating patellas and eye conditions like cataracts, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups essential for their long-term well-being.
