This very sweet two-year-old girl was dumped on the side of a road—and stayed there for days, refusing to leave. Even as people tried to help, she would run away, waiting faithfully for the person who left her behind. Despite everything she’s been through, Rita’s heart is still wide open. She’s about 36 pounds of pure love and joy, ready to share her gentle and affectionate nature with a family of her own. Rita has had puppies in the past, but she is now spayed, heartworm negative, and fully up to date on her vaccinations. Rita is both potty trained and kennel trained, making her an easy companion to welcome into your home. She’s also dog-friendly and does best with dogs her size or larger. Right now, Rita is stuck in boarding with nowhere to go, and she urgently needs a foster or—better yet—a forever home where she can finally feel safe and loved. Rita has been waiting long enough. Could you be the one to show her she’ll never be left behind again? Please reach out to: steffeniegaprescuegmail

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
