Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: Cincinnati,OH DOB: 11/18/2019 Birdie is the epitome of a classic Great Dane—elegant, affectionate, and just the right amount of sassy. With her stunning blue coat and soulful eyes, she turns heads wherever she goes, but it’s her gentle heart and loyalty that truly make her unforgettable. Living with six other dogs right now, Birdie has made it clear she prefers the company of just a few, ideally large and laid-back male dogs. While she's had a few spats with one of the female dogs in the home, she's otherwise easygoing and respectful. She does best when mealtime is her own, as she likes to enjoy her food in peace. Birdie is wonderful with children and cats, and she bonds deeply with her people. She’s especially fond of the man of the house and tends to choose her favorite human with intention and devotion. When new people come around, she may sound the alarm with a few barks, but it doesn’t take long before she’s welcoming them like old friends. Her current family trusts her completely around people of all ages. She’s fully house trained and uses a doggy door like a pro. Birdie has never tested the limits of her 6-foot fence and isn’t one to go looking for trouble. She’s not destructive—but she is a Dane, and if left in a bedroom with an unattended pillow for too long, well… let’s just say she has her own ideas about interior design. Birdie loves car rides, enjoys her daily walks, and lives for connection with her humans. She’s not overly vocal and prefers to let her presence—and her signature side-eye—do the talking when she wants attention. She’s charming, a little dramatic, and completely endearing in that classic Great Dane way. Her current family is heartbroken to let her go, but they know she deserves a home that fits her needs and lets her shine. Whether you're looking to foster or open your heart to adopt, Birdie is ready to bring her grace, love, and just a hint of sass to your life. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
