Description
Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). To know Stringbean is to adore him. Seriously. This sweet guy has the warmest heart and the most playful demeanor. His absolute favorite thing to do is play. He can entertain himself for hours with a Jolly Ball, for about ten minutes with a stuffy, or just roll around on his back in the sun to amuse himself. He loves to play with other dogs, and is particularly good with females about his size. He loves to wrestle and chase, or just be together. The only thing that exceeds his love for toys and dog friends is his love for people. Stringbean (who also answers to “Bean”) loves to cuddle and hike, or simply to lean against you. Waking him up in the morning is the best way to start the day. He pops his head out of the blanket that he burrowed himself into with a big happy smile. He truly is full of joy. The only thing missing from Stringbean’s life is a person or family to call his own. Stringbean is a healthy, happy fella! He is crate-trained, has beautiful teeth, knows basic commands (and learning more!), is food-motivated, does well in the car, and is easy to handle at the vet’s office. Added bonus - he walks well on leash! His right ear is prone to infections, so his vet recommends a weekly flush. His prey drive is not strong, so we believe he could learn to live with a cat. He would do great living with another dog; this is our strong preference but not a requirement. Please reach out, Stringbean is waiting for you! Email waggytaylorgmail to set up a time to meet him. California Pit bull Rescue is an official 501(c)(3) and requires an adoption application and $200 donation fee for all adoptions.

Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
