Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Esther is a true little survivor with a story that will tug at your heart. She is believed to be a Shepherd mix approx. 10 weeks old (as of 04/01/26) and currently weighs 13.4 lbs. Esther is the last remaining pup from a litter abandoned in a box off Stoneleigh on 03/20/26. Despite her difficult start, she is growing stronger every single day and showing just how resilient and special she is. Esther is currently on medication for her skin infection and will need a dedicated, experienced home that understands she still requires extra care and attention as she continues to heal and thrive. Because of her vulnerable condition, she is available for adoption by approved online application only, and an approved application is also required prior to any meet and greet. Her adoption fee is $125 and includes her spay, microchip, rabies vaccination, first DAPPV, and first Bordetella booster. Esther's spay is scheduled for Wednesday, 04/22/26 when she will be about 12 weeks old. This date is non-negotiable and in accordance with Texas state law. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
