Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Catherine: Your New 6lb Shadow Catherine has officially graduated from "shy survivor" to "professional snuggler!" Her foster family reports that this 3-year-old Yorkie mix is a total "velcro dog"—she wants nothing more than to be right by your side, soaking up all the love she missed out on in the past. She is currently being treated for a minor UTI with antibiotics and is expected to be back to 100% very soon. If you’re looking for a tiny, loyal companion to follow you from room to room and keep your lap warm, Catherine is ready to be your best friend. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
