Meet Mary Jane At just 1 year old and 35 pounds, Mary Jane is a beautiful Black Lab/Hound mix with a gentle spirit and so much love to give. She was an owner surrender on 2/6/26, and while we don’t know everything about her past, we’re focused on giving her the bright future she deserves. Mary Jane is wonderful with kids and has a sweet, easygoing nature that makes her a joy to be around. She’s fully vetted and ready to find a family to call her own. While her housebreaking status is currently unknown, she’s young, smart, and eager to learn—she’ll thrive with a little guidance and consistency. Arriving in NJ on 3/29 and ready to meet her forever family! This lovely girl is the perfect mix of playful and affectionate, and she’s just waiting for someone to give her a second chance at a forever home. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
