Dog Breed: Saint Bernard. Our adoption fee is $425 for all breeds and all ages. This fee helps to defray the costs for general vet costs, training, supplies and transportation. We are foster based and our organization is national, we have dogs in foster all over the country. Please inquire if you do not see information about a specific dogs location in the description. The Saint Bernard is an iconic, gentle giant originating from the Swiss Alps, where they were famously bred by monks at the Great St. Bernard Hospice for rescue missions. Physically, they are magnificent dogs, known for their substantial size, powerful build, and a distinctive broad head often featuring a wrinkled brow and soulful eyes. Their thick coat, which can be smooth or rough, is typically a striking combination of white with patches of red, mahogany, or brindle. Temperamentally, Saint Bernards are renowned for their calm, patient, and affectionate nature, making them excellent companions and remarkably tolerant with children, earning them the nickname "nanny dog." However, due to their immense size, they are generally not well-suited for apartment living, thriving best in homes with a spacious yard and owners committed to their exercise needs. Prospective owners should also be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat, and eye conditions, necessitating responsible breeding and regular veterinary care for these beloved giants.
