Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (medium coat). Dude may be a senior cattle dog, but he still has plenty of pep in his step! When he first arrived at the shelter he was fearful of staff, but with time and patience he has warmed up and made many human friends along the way. Once he knows you, Dude is a playful and fun companion who loves chasing tennis balls and will happily show off his enthusiasm for treats, heâs very food motivated! Dude will need an adult-only home (no children) where he can continue building trust with his people. Because he can be nervous with new individuals, Dude is part of our âBuild the Bondâ program and is currently available by appointment only with specific staff members. If youâre interested in meeting Dude and starting the process toward adoption, please call the shelter to schedule an appointment.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
