Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Meet Mia — your springtime sidekick! At just 5 months old, Mia is a happy, energetic pup who’s ready to bloom in her forever home. Found as a stray earlier this year, she’s now safe with Southeast German Shepherd Rescue and soaking up her second chance at life. Mia loves people, kids, and other dogs, and would thrive with a playful canine sibling. She’s about 99% potty trained, crate trained and already knows a few basic commands. This smart girl will even let you know when it’s time to go out—sometimes with sweet kisses and a gentle wake-up call Like any puppy, she’s curious (watch your socks!) and full of energy, but she settles down into the sweetest cuddle bug at the end of the day. She also rides great in the car, making her the perfect adventure buddy. Mia is looking for a home with love, structure, and a family who’s around often to help her grow into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. Fostered in Roanoke, VA Ready to meet Mia? Apply through Southeast German Shepherd Rescue! Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
