Description
Dog Breed: Cocker Spaniel (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $400.00 Sophia’s story is just beginning. Sophia came to us from an Amish breeder and is learning—often for the very first time—what it means to simply be a dog. She is a gentle, sweet soul who is working hard every day to feel more comfortable around people and in new situations. You can see it in her eyes: she wants the affection, she wants to play, and she truly wants to be part of a family. She’s just still unsure of the world and needs time to build confidence. Sophia can be skittish, but with patience, consistency, and lots of love, we are confident she will continue to come out of her shell. Creating a calm, safe environment where she always feels secure is key for her. The good news? Sophia is fully potty trained and crate trained, and she absolutely loves other dogs. They are her best teachers, so a confident canine companion would be ideal for her. Because she startles easily, a securely fenced yard is a must, and a quieter home without small children would be the best fit for her sensitive nature. Sophia may need time—but for the right family, she will be so worth it. She’s ready for someone who sees her potential and is willing to let her bloom at her own pace.

Overview:
The Cocker Spaniel, a beloved breed with roots in the United Kingdom, was originally bred as a gundog to flush out woodcock. They are instantly recognizable by their medium size, typically weighing 20-30 pounds, their luxurious, often wavy coat (which comes in a variety of colors), and their long, expressive ears that frame their gentle, eager-to-please eyes. Known for their merry and affectionate temperament, Cockers are generally good-natured, intelligent, and relatively easy to train, making them an excellent choice for families with children and even first-time dog owners. While adaptable, their moderate exercise needs can be met with daily walks and playtime, making them suitable for apartment living as long as they receive sufficient mental and physical stimulation. Prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including ear infections (due to their long ears), eye conditions like cataracts, and hip dysplasia, which highlight the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
