Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Me Heidi a 1 1/2 year old Shepherd looking for her perfect family. Heidi is one of the friendliest dogs you will ever meet! Loving in every way and always excited to meet new people. She loved children and adults alike. Doesn't seemed bothered by men or women and has shown us that she has a great temperament. Heidi is neutral around dogs so you can take her out on the trails and not worry about the dogs passing by but she would prefer not to share her home with another dog. She does have some resource guarding issues especially when it comes to her toys so this could make for a challenge if she was made to live in a house with another dog. While Heidi has never hurt a cat, she also does show some prey drive and loves to chase them. We feel this would be unfair to our feline friends to make them live with a dog who is constantly chasing them around the house. Heidi has a deep love for her tennis balls and soccer balls. She will play fetch until you are both tired! When she is done playing she is ready for all the love you have to give! Come out and play with Heidi and see if she could be the dog you have been waiting for!Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at infoawlwarsaw if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
