Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie. "Meet Muffin. This adorable little Yorkie girl was originally adopted from a shelter when she was around 6–7 months old. At the time, her owner was pregnant and later reached out for help caring for Muffin after the baby arrived. We came to know Muffin through that caregiver, Angelique, who ended up caring for her for nearly six months. During that time, Muffin lived with her young kids and other dogs, enjoyed daily walks, and became well established with her potty training. Muffin returned to her owner in January 2025, but Angelique stayed closely connected, hosting her for playdates and even a few overnight visits. Muffin’s owner has now made the decision to rehome her, and Angelique has stepped up to foster her once again. She reached out to our rescue to help find Muffin the loving forever home she deserves. Angelique shared this update: "Muffin is a really good dog who loves to explore, so a fenced yard would be ideal. She has a bit more energy than our senior dogs prefer, and they let her know when she’s being too much. She’s quick to learn, eager to please, and would do best with another young, playful dog in the home. Leash walking is still a work in progress. She can pull and bark out of excitement when she sees other dogs, but it’s not aggressive. She’s improving with guidance and does better on a shorter leash. She’s likely not a great fit for a city environment, as she’s afraid of things like drains and tends to avoid them. She did well with potty training while with us, but consistency will be key as she settles back into a routine." This adorable little pup deserves more stability than she’s had and will truly blossom in a home with a flexible schedule and the consistency every dog needs. Apply today! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
