OLLIE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Ollie Best Guess for Breed: Schnauzer mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of March 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 22.14 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Puerto Rico shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think this pup would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Ollie is Looking For: His forever home! Ollie is a sato - a dog from Puerto Rico. He is eager to get his fresh start with his own humans in the DC area - he's eager to explore his new area on sniffy walks and adventures! But you know what he wants most of all? To know he's safe and loved, where he belongs. In exchange he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship for all his days. Shelter staff say Ollie is the life of a party, he is super fun, puppy energy, very bouncy and will do well in a home where he can play and get a lot of exercise. He loves people and dogs and thinks everyone is his best friend. Does he sound like the one for you? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once this pup has spent time in foster care. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
