Yes, Weston requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Weston would do best as an only dog or perhaps with one other like-sized friendly dog. He needs an adopter with rescue experience who is committed to providing regular, positive dog interactions outside the home could. While he is familiar with handling, he needs to totally trust his handler before playing with him. In everyday household life, he needs to be given a routine. He is extremely smart and quickly learns and will respect that routine. He will need patience, kindness, and steady guidance. He also needs leadership. In his past life he was meant to be a service dog. However well-meaning his owners were, their life was hectic and he was left on his own to figure out his role. The constant traffic in the home made him very anxious. Weston is looking for a calm, stable, and predictable home where he can settle in at his own pace. Loud or constantly changing environments may be overwhelming for him, and he will thrive best in a peaceful setting with understanding humans who allow him the time he needs to feel secure. Weston will not be adopted to first time dog owners or to families with lots of visitors or children. He needs low key and a confident owner. Weston is not suited for a home with cats. He will chase them. He is also not suited for a a living situation with shared walls. He has a voice and will use it. One important thing to know about Weston is that if he feels threatened with what he considers invasive touch by someone he is not familiar with, he may growl. He is also quite protective of his human and may growl at the other pet in the home. In his foster home he knew that was unacceptable and literally he will walk over to his kennel and flip open the door for a time out. He never complains, he rests calmly in his kennel without fuss. What is my personality like? Weston is a stunning almost 4-year-old brown and white Standard Poodle. He loves to be patted and wants a “certain amount” of hugging and patting every day. He is not above flipping your arm to get to your hand. He is goofy. When given a treat he sits up and begs – so cute! He is extremely food motivated and could be taught almost anything if enticed with a treat. Weston is a great watch dog and has a very loud bark. He would not do well in an apartment. Weston has been routinely groomed and is at ease being handled and standing on the grooming table, so maintaining his coat should be a smooth and stress-free part of his care. If adopted in the Myrtle Beach area he already has a groomer that LOVES him. How do I act when I first meet new people? Weston is not going to bound up to you for an introduction. He's a gentleman who prefers slow introductions. Other tips and tidbits: Weston is almost 6 years old. We celebrate his birthday 06/06/2022. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive - and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Overview:
The Standard Poodle is a captivating and highly intelligent breed with a rich history, believed to have originated in Germany as a water retriever before being refined in France. Renowned for their distinctive, dense, and curly coat—which is virtually non-shedding, making them a great choice for allergy sufferers—they are elegant and athletic dogs. Physically, they possess a proud carriage, a long muzzle, and dark, expressive eyes, typically weighing between 45-70 pounds. Their temperament is characterized by being highly intelligent, easily trainable, and generally good-natured, though they require mental stimulation to prevent boredom. Standard Poodles are surprisingly adaptable, thriving in active families and even adapting well to apartment living provided they receive adequate exercise and mental engagement. While generally healthy, owners should be aware of potential health concerns like hip dysplasia, bloat, and eye conditions. Their combination of brains, beauty, and biddability makes them a truly versatile and rewarding companion.
