Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky. Meet Toodles! When we first pulled Toodles from the shelter, we knew she needed us, but we didn’t realize just how much she had already endured. Her journey with us started out with a grueling, heartbreaking night at the ER, where she faced the devastating loss of her puppies, while battling a severe respiratory infection. Between the exhaustion of labor and a severe infection, she has been through more than any pup should have to endure. Toodles spent her life chained outside on a 3-foot lead with no shelter, until the day she finally broke free. But now, safe at Husky House, we're so happy to share that Toodles is all healed up and officially on the mend. She is searching for her loving forever home. Interested in adopting Toodles? Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
