Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. To adopt please fill out an adoption Application Duke is a 6yo male pit bull mix who was surrendered in Memphis by his owner who could no longer care for him. Friendly, well socialized, sweet temperament. A little shy at first with strangers but warms up quickly. Great with other dogs, submissive, living with multiple other dogs in his foster home. Not cat tested. No history with kids. Housebroken and crate trained. Medium-high energy level outside, quiet and well-mannered in the house. Loves to be with his people. Good on a leash, rides great in the car. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, neutered, weighs about 65 pounds. Duke is a very sweet dog who would enjoy an active family and possibly a dog buddy. Here’s a note from his foster dad: I am Duke’s petsitter and he was left with me when his owner could no longer care for him. I really love this little fella and I want him to have an amazing life. He is a VERY sensitive boy. In fact, I have to keep him with me all the time, bc the bigger dogs are mean to him. He’s very socially awkward and hyper-submissive. I think he would be best as a single dog household. Dukey just loves his human so much. He also cries A LOT when he is left alone. He stops soon, but he wants to be with his human all of the time. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
