Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet Oreo! This stunning, 60 pound boy is patiently waiting for his next adventure! He's an absolute love bug! Ready for some adventer but mostly just being a faithful canine companion! He lived in a home since a pup and he is described as friendly and sociable to all people and other dogs (good with cats is unknown). He's been super engaging here with our staff and volunteers and knows some basic cues like responding to his name and sit. Other than a beautiful heavy coat that will need some brushing he's really perfect for any situation regardless of his age! Please come by our Boston location to meet this dude - he won't dissappoint! My friends describe me as: social butterfly, sweet and snuggly Oreo is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and seen by our vet team. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY however, we are unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
