Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Mac is the epitome of a social, happy guy! Mac is just under a year old and is your typical happy-go-lucky puppy. If he were a human, he would be the type of guy to introduce himself to everyone at the party with a big hug. His favorite activities include making new friends and playing with his squeaky toys. He would be a wonderful, active companion for someone who wants a dog that they can take anywhere - including outdoor adventures. Mac weighs about 50lbs. He seems like he is pretty much fully grown, but may grow a little more. Mac was found as a stray on a busy street in Modesto. He was brought to the county shelter and ended up on the euthanasia list at no fault of his own. We knew we couldn't let such an amazing dog become the victim of a broken system, and one of our generous foster homes stepped up so we could save his life. Mac has been adjusting well to foster care and can't wait to become your new BFF! Mac is the definition of a big puppy. He is a goofy guy who brings happiness wherever he goes. He loves meeting new friends and is a true social butterfly. He loves playtime and walks and is great at walking on a leash. He definitely is a higher-energy pup and needs a family who can keep up with his zest for life. He would thrive in a home with lots of people to love on him. Mac has been doing very well learning his basic manners, but still needs to continue with his training, and he needs a family dedicated to helping him learn how to be the best boy he can be. Mac did very well with other dogs while at the shelter and was a frequent attendee for play groups. He seems like he could do well as an only dog, or with another playful medium/large dog in his new home. Mac has been respectful of the cats he sees on walks and may do well living with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. Mac could be a wonderful addition to a family with older kids. Since he can still sometimes be jumpy/mouthy when excited, he would do best in a home with kids 10 years and older. Mac has been doing very well with his housetraining, but will need to continue with his training in a new home. Mac has been practicing settling in a crate, but is not fully crate-trained. He isn't the biggest fan of being home alone, so he would do best with a family that can slowly acclimate him to being alone and doesn't have to leave him alone often or for long. Mac is such an amazing guy, and he is going to bring so much joy to whoever adopts him. If you think that might be you, submit an application today! Mac's adoption fee is $350. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. Breed overview
Overview:
The Sheprador, a popular crossbreed resulting from the union of a German Shepherd Dog and a Labrador Retriever, embodies many desirable traits from both parent breeds. Originating from designer breed efforts to combine the intelligence of the German Shepherd with the Labrador's friendly disposition, these dogs typically boast a medium to large build with a dense, weather-resistant coat that can range in color. Physically, they often exhibit the Shepherd’s strong bone structure and the Lab’s kind eyes. Temperamentally, Shepradors are generally intelligent, loyal, and trainable, making them excellent companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and do best in homes with a yard, as their energy levels make apartment living challenging without significant daily exercise. While generally healthy, potential health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, common to both parent breeds, and eye conditions. Early socialization and consistent training are key to fostering a well-adjusted Sheprador.
