Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua. Hope is a 1½-year-old Chihuahua who is learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. She came from a difficult hoarding situation where she and the other dogs were not properly cared for, so she is still discovering what it means to be part of a family and how to simply be a dog. Hope is crate trained and currently working on her potty training. Because of her past, she is still learning house routines, so she will do best with a patient family who is willing to continue helping her with housebreaking and is comfortable using pee pads while she learns. She is a shy girl at first, especially with new people, but once she warms up she becomes incredibly sweet and snuggly. Hope loves cozy spots—her bed, your bed, and greeting you when you come home are some of her favorite things. She also enjoys the comfort of having other dogs around and does well with canine companions. Hope is still building confidence with everyday things, like stairs. She has figured out how to go up but is still a little nervous about coming down. With encouragement and time, she continues to make progress. The best home for Hope will be a quiet, calm environment with patient people who understand that she’s still learning and will help her grow at her own pace. In return, Hope will reward her family with the sweetest cuddles and the joy of watching a shy little dog blossom into a confident, loved companion. Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
