Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. MEET BUDDY — OUR SWEET CHOCOLATE LAB Buddy weighs about 60 lbs and could use a few more pounds to fill out. He’s 2 years old and a beautiful chocolate Lab with a calm, gentle spirit — the kind of dog who wants nothing more than a soft couch, a quiet home, and a human to adore. And let’s just say… he has discovered his true passion in life: beds, couches, and blankets. If it’s soft, Buddy is convinced it was made specifically for him. He was surrendered to a shelter, through no fault of his own, after chasing a neighbor’s chickens. Buddy does have a prey drive, so he will need a home with no cats, chickens, or small animals. He also prefers to be the only dog — he’s happiest when he doesn’t have to share his people. Buddy is a loving dog that is great with kids and all humans. Inside the home, Buddy is the definition of a couch potato. He’s relaxed, easygoing, and content just being near you. No chaos, no drama — just a steady, loving companion who wants to be someone’s whole world. If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow, deeply affectionate dog who will follow you from room to room and curl up beside you every night, Buddy might be the one. He’s ready for his fresh start. Buddy has tested low positive for heartworm; he has no symptoms and is currently on slowkill treatment. All necessary medications will be provided to the adopter, and additional details about his care will be shared once an application is submitted. He is up to date on vaccinations and neutered. and microchipped. Adoption Criteria: No crating — Use a baby gate if not home Fenced backyard required (no invisible fences) Someone who is home more during the day Children must be 7 years of age or older Buddy's adoption fee is $395. Please put in an application on our website. .indianasaveadog

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
