Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). This handsome fella is Gunner. He was a stray before being found and finding himself in a rural pound where he spent months waiting for someone to notice him. He is now in a foster home and figuring out how to be a dog, realizing that he will have food every day and how nice it feels to sleep on comfy couches instead of a concrete floor. He is very playful with other dogs, cats don't phase him, he just sniffs them and moves on, and he loves kids (the 3 year old toddler in his foster home is his best friend), although he is still learning manners and can be a little jumpy when he gets excited. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night and prefers to do his business outside. He would love to find a home with a playful furry friend or an active family that can help him continue to learn and be the best dog he can be.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
