Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Chihuahua (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Please contact LMo for more information about this pet. Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Scruffy is an 8-9 year old (best guess on age) female Yorkie Chihuahua mix who weighs in at 8 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $250. If you are still interested, please read more below. This pup is a sweet scruffy senior. She was found locally as a stray. She came to ARF and was spayed and got her teeth cleaned. Scruffy feels so much better now! This little lady would love to have a yard to chase some squirrels and birds. She may, however, see cats as prey. She is good with other dogs and seems ok with kids. Scruffy has a bit of pep in her step for a senior. She will surely enjoy some nice walks outside as she learns what walking on a leash is all about (she will walk on a leash but it seems new to her). Scruffy does ok in a crate after some brief fussing. She enjoys car rides. Scruffy is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken, and recently spayed. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! We are based in Wheaton, IL and conduct adoption events in the DuPage County area. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: .arf-il/adopt/ As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit .arf-il/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events. Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
