Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie. Adoption Fee: $395. German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (.heartlandgsrescue) "Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?" for additional information. Meet Gilligan — your future snuggle buddy with a heart full of sunshine. Gilligan is an 8.5-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who is finally getting his chance to enjoy the good life after being released from a breeder. And let us tell you—this adorable little guy is making the most of it! Gilligan is missing his teeth, but that doesn’t slow him down one bit. He happily enjoys soft meals and will absolutely show off his adorable excitement if treats are involved—sometimes even dancing on his back feet to earn a snack! He’s the definition of joyful: he loves food, is thrilled to go on walks -he has the cutest little prance-, he has no trouble going up and down stairs, he's foster mom's little shadow, and loves to be part of the action. Gilligan adores people and will gladly soak up all the cuddles, pets, and any attention you’re willing to give. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch, working in an office, or heading out for a drive, he’s your perfect little companion. Bonus: he’s an excellent car rider and a top-tier “office helper"! Gilligan has an adorable pep in his step, plenty of life left to live, and at 4.2 lbs he's absolutely adorable! He’s wonderfully well-mannered, already potty trained, sleeps through the night, and settles nicely in his kennel after enjoying a little cuddle time in bed with his foster parents. He’s also incredibly comfortable around other pets of all sizes, making him an easy addition to many types of homes. Gilligan’s favorite things in life are soft, cozy places -think fluffy beds, comfy couches, and warm laps-. If you’re looking for an tiny, little prince with a oodles of personality, who will bring warmth, joy, companionship, and who will keep you laughing with his antics, Gilligan is your guy! This fantastic little pup is ready to spend his golden years being loved the way he deserves. The adoption fee for Gilly is $395, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like any of our dogs, Gilly would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, regular grooming, activity and mental stimulation that his breed needs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners. Please review the information in the "About Us", "Important Considerations" and "Adopt" sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
