The Bearded Collie, affectionately known as the "Beardie," is a charming and vivacious herding dog originating from Scotland, where they were prized for their intelligence and ability to work in harsh weather. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their long, shaggy double coat, which comes in various shades like black, blue, brown, or fawn, often with white markings. Beneath the luxurious fur lies a medium-sized, athletic build, indicating their working heritage. Temperamentally, Beardies are known for being playful, intelligent, and outgoing, often displaying a whimsical and slightly clownish demeanor. They are generally excellent with children and other pets, making them a wonderful addition to active families.
