Dog Breed: Saint Bernard / Shepherd / Mixed. Sammy is 3.5 years old and weighs about 53 lbs. He looks Saint Bernard ish, but is definitely NOT the size of one. His story is one that stays with you. He was a well-known street dog living near the beach in Durres, where both tourists and local volunteers fed him every day. He became a familiar, friendly face&mdash;one of those dogs everyone looked forward to seeing. Then one day, Sammy showed up with a painful burn on his face. After speaking with neighbors and nearby businesses, it&rsquo;s believed someone threw a chemical on him. It&rsquo;s the kind of cruelty that happens when a good, trusting dog crosses paths with the wrong person. Because the person responsible is still in that area, returning Sammy to the streets would mean putting him right back in danger. And yet, despite everything he&rsquo;s been through, Sammy is still incredibly sweet. He loves people, gets along well with other dogs, cats, and has even met children without any issues. He never lost that gentle, trusting nature. Thankfully, his eyes were not damaged, and his burn has healed beautifully&mdash;his fur is already growing back in. Sammy is the definition of resilience.
