Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Doja, a beautiful 6-year-old female German Shepherd with a heart full of love and a spirit ready to brighten your life. Though she may start a bit anxious on walks, she settles halfway into enjoying her time exploring. Her happiness shines brightest when chasing squeaky balls, playing fetch, or splashing joyfully in the kiddie pool. Doja’s intelligence shows in her knowing `sit,` and while she takes treats a little hard, with a little practice, she will learn to take them softly. Her tidy nature and outdoor habits suggest she’s likely housebroken, making her an even more wonderful companion. Friendly to both people and other dogs, Doja may take her time to warm up and seek affection from her handler, but promises loyalty as she bonds. Come down and meet Doja soon. She is ready to bring joy and companionship into your life. Doja has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out her playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet and greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We are located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
