Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Gretal is a loving little gal, about 5 years old and just under 20 pounds. She’s got a sweet, easygoing personality and has done well with both adults and older children. She gets along nicely with other dogs and is currently living peacefully with older female pups. Gretal is mostly potty trained, not much of a barker, and does well on leash for her walks. She does have a bit of an adventurous streak and would likely take the opportunity to explore if given the chance, so a secure yard and mindful door management will be important. She loves keeping an eye on things from her perch (especially the back of the couch!) and has a particular fondness for cozy spots like clean laundry. Gretal prefers being close to her people and has been sleeping soundly through the night with her humans. She’s not a big fan of the crate at this point, but could learn with consistent training and patience. Gretal is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, and on monthly flea/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $300 and you can apply to adopt at mpravl. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
