Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. This gorgeous German Shepherd is Sierra. She is 4yrs old and about 70 lbs. If you are a fan of the breed, you will love Sierra! She’s a sweet girl, friendly to everyone. She walks well on a leash and knows lots of commands. Sierra has spent some time in the home of one our volunteers and was a perfect house guest. She’s housebroken, very well behaved and even great in the car! Sierra, like most shepherds does not enjoy kennel life. Sierra was once part of someone’s family and she’s longing for the chance to be someone’s loyal and loving companion again. Sierra is spayed, microchipped and up to date on shots. Sierra doesn’t mind walking by other dogs but would be best as the only dog in the home. This wonderful girl deserves to be in a home! If you think your home might be the right one for her, please fill out an application on our website at rescueridge . If your application is a possible match, a volunteer will get back to you to schedule a meet. Sierra is located in Monmouth County, NJ

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
