Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 200.00. Meet me Saturday 4/4 at the Pleasanton Farmer's Market, in Delucchi Park, from 10:30 am - 1 pm! (4501 First Street, Pleasanton). Frito loves to get his cozy on; whether a pillow, a blanket, warm laundry or your arms, Frito is ready to snuggle. He could double a clutch purse given his penchant for being carried around. Frito is a great little man; open, curious and not afraid of anyone nor any dog. He's great on leash and will happily take the lead on a pack walk. In foster care, he's doing well with housetraining with a consistent routine and boundaries. Frito was transferred to Valley Humane on 3/23 from the Tri-City Animal Shelter. He is a young adult (estimated to be aged between 1 and 4 years old) and weighs 5.7 pounds. This dog has a condition called "luxating patellas." This means that his knee caps on his hind legs may spontaneously pop out of place, resulting in lameness and pain. At this time, his luxating patellas are a Grade 1 out of 4 (where 1 is the least severe and 4 is the most severe) in the left knee and Grade 2 out of 4 in the right knee. This means that the knee cap is loose and may move in and out of place spontaneously as he walks. At this time, the luxating patellas does not affect his gait and do not appear to cause lameness. Luxating patellas can be corrected by surgery and adopters may choose this route at their expense. If surgery is not pursued, the dog may develop arthritis in the knee joint. Arthritis can be treated with anti-inflammatory medication made for dogs. You may wish to discuss treatment options with your regular veterinarian. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
