Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. Meet Nemo Location: Colorado Springs, CO DOB: 12/29/2018 Nemo is a tender-hearted Great Dane with a thoughtful, observant nature and a quiet curiosity about the world around him. Unlike some “instant Velcro” dogs, Nemo takes his time building trust — but once he does, his affection is genuine, deep, and incredibly rewarding. As he settles in, Nemo’s sweet personality continues to shine. He now greets his people with gentle morning check-ins, leans in for affection, and seeks out cuddles more often. When he truly relaxes, he’ll stretch out with a contented sigh — a small but meaningful sign of how far he’s come. Nemo enjoys life’s simple pleasures: car rides, neighborhood walks, yard patrol, watching the world from a window, and the occasional burst of playful zoomies. He also has a quietly goofy side, with adorable head tilts, expressive looks, and a signature crooked lip that gives him a permanently charming expression. Nemo has a moderate energy level — he enjoys activity but also appreciates downtime to decompress. He walks well on leash, rides well in the car, is housetrained, and does well in a crate. Nemo is a sensitive dog who can be cautious with new people, environments, and sudden changes. When overwhelmed, he may become unsure or reactive, but this is rooted in fear — not aggression. With structure, training, and patient guidance, he has made tremendous progress. He now looks to his handler for reassurance, redirects more easily, and is learning to navigate the world with growing confidence. Because of his sensitive nature, Nemo needs an adopter who understands that he is not a “plug-and-play” dog. He will thrive with calm, confident leadership, predictable routines, and someone willing to continue building on the progress he’s already made. Nemo has lived successfully with another dog and has shown he benefits from a calm, balanced canine companion. He enjoys appropriate play once comfortable and takes cues from other dogs well. He could also do well as an only dog with the right person. Slow, thoughtful introductions are key, as he can feel overwhelmed by high-energy or pushy dogs. He has not been formally tested with cats, but with careful introductions and guidance, he may be able to adjust. Nemo has been around children (ages 5–10) in a structured environment and did well, but due to his sensitivity, he would do best in an adult-only home or one with mature, dog-savvy older children or teens who understand boundaries and respectful interaction. He does best with calm, low-pressure introductions to new people. Given time and space, he settles in and becomes more comfortable, showing his gentle and loyal nature. Nemo has overcome a great deal. He previously recovered from a leg injury that required surgery and has completed heartworm treatment. Today, he is healthy, active, and ready for his next chapter. Nemo’s Ideal Home: - Calm, structured, and predictable environment - Patient, experienced adopter who understands sensitive dogs - Adult-only home or one with mature children/teens - Optional calm canine companion - Minimal stairs preferred - Commitment to continued training and confidence building Nemo is not for everyone — but for the right person, he is something truly special. Watching him learn to trust, relax, and enjoy life is an incredibly rewarding experience. If you’re willing to give him the time and understanding he deserves, Nemo will reward you with a deep, meaningful bond unlike any other. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
