Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). JET Come meet Jet! Jet is a sweet, loving, and curious fella. He's active and adventurous and is just as happy playing fetch with a ball in the rain as he is snuggling on the couch or sleeping in the sun. Great traveler and excellent copilot for car trips, whether you're running errands or going on a multi-day adventure. Gets along well with dogs of all sizes and ages. While he has had brief, curious meetings with cats, small animals, and children, he has not yet had a full introduction with them for long. Jet is just under 1 years old, already neutered, healthy, and would make a wonderful solo dog or a playful addition to a multiple dog household. At nearly 50 lbs, Jet is house trained and communicates clearly when he needs to go outside. He is excellent off leash and follows commands well. He is still learning proper leash etiquette when interacting with other dogs, but mostly just excited to play with others. He is smart, loves to learn new things, is vocal during play or when he gets excited, and loves showing off his favorite toys like the ball or rope. If you are looking for a goofy, snuggly, loyal best friend who is ready for love and adventure, Jet is waiting for you. If you're interested in meeting Jet, please visit humboldtgov/2658/Animal-Shelter and fill out an application to be pre-approved to make an appointment.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
