Meet Calista, a delightful adult pup looking for a forever home. She is a recent mom and her pups have been adopted, now it’s Calista’s turn. We are thinking this sweet girl is a Boston Terrier and Chihuahua mix. Known for her sweet and gentle nature, Calista embodies the spirit of friendship and playfulness. She's not only smart but also incredibly nurturing, making her an ideal family pet or a loyal companion for anyone seeking a loving friend. She is house trained and crate trained but could use some work on her leash skills and would like to join you for a walk for hike so she can get more practice. She is a smart girl and basic group training classes is recommended to help her learn commands, socialize with other humans and dogs, as well as build that fur-ever bond with you! Her ability to connect with people and her endearing personality make her stand out. Calista deserves a forever home where she can share her limitless love and brighten your days with her joyful antics. Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment, and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. Breed overview
Overview:
The "Boston Huahua" is a charming and increasingly popular designer breed, a delightful cross between the spirited Boston Terrier and the feisty Chihuahua. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parents, this breed typically inherits a compact size, usually weighing between 8-15 pounds, with a short, smooth coat that can display a variety of colors, often mimicking the Boston Terrier's tuxedo pattern or the Chihuahua's solid hues. Physically, they often feature expressive eyes and alert ears. Temperamentally, Boston Huahuas are known for being affectionate, lively, and intelligent companions. They are generally adaptable to both apartment living and homes with yards, provided they receive sufficient exercise and mental stimulation. Their moderate energy levels and playful nature make them suitable for families, though early socialization is crucial, especially with children and other pets. Health-wise, potential concerns can include patellar luxation, dental issues, and respiratory sensitivities, inherited from their parent breeds. Regular veterinary check-ups and a balanced diet are key to their well-being, ensuring a long and happy life for these endearing little dogs.
