Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). This sweet, social girl is on our Call to Action list because we know sheâs going to need a very special home, and we donât want her to be overlooked. Her biggest challenge is her vocalization - when sheâs overwhelmed or anxious, she can become extremely loud (it can sound like sheâs literally screaming), which makes both shelter life and some home environments difficult for her. She has so many wonderful qualities. Sheâs petite, affectionate, and has previously lived with other dogs and cats successfully. In a previous home, she even loved curling up with the kids and being part of the family. That said, she can also become over-aroused during play or interaction, which has led to behaviors like grabbing clothing and being a bit too rough, especially for younger children. Because of this, she may do best in a home without small kids or with experienced handlers who can help guide her. ?? What She Needs ?? Sheâs looking for someone who: Has patience and a sense of humor Isnât restricted by close neighbors or noise concerns Can provide structure, exercise, and consistency Is open to working through her behaviors (and possibly working with a trainer) Is home often, or able to help her gradually learn how to settle Weâre still trying to learn what helps her most - it may be time to decompress, increased enrichment, a canine companion, training support, or even behavioral medication. What we do know is that she needs someone willing to meet her where sheâs at and help her feel safe. Underneath the stress is a loving, social dog who wants connection. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
