Description

Dog Breed: Bulldog (short coat). ***Clyde is currently located at our Rescue in Georgia. He will be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the April 18-19 weekend. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue (no need to register or login). Questions about Clyde and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8gmail; please don't call the Rescue's number.*** On a cold night in January we were made aware that a small dog and a number of puppies had been discarded on Vance Rd just below SoCo Rescue's location. Over a span of four hours Scott Bennett, with the help of some concerned citizens, trudged through the woods, thick with overgrown thorns and dead vegetation, in an attempt to corral the mom and eight young pups. While the mom and six of the pups were Chihuahua mix, two of the pups, Bonnie and Clyde, were a Bully breed. Late into the night and after the others had all went home, Scott was finally able to capture the last of the pups and get them to SoCo Rescue. Despite suffering from a skin rash due to flea infestation and being loaded with worms and other parasites, Clyde was quick to show his appreciation for being rescued. He immediately displayed a very playful personality and his eagerness to become friends with everyone he met. We do expect him to be a large dog once fully grown, so a home with plenty of room to run and play would be best for him. Clyde has already received all of his first year "puppy" vaccines, been de-wormed multiple times and started on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. While still slightly evident, he has almost regrown all of his missing fur caused by his flea infestation. His adopter must agree to having Clyde neutered once he reaches the appropriate age (typically 6 months) and providing SoCo with verification of such. Clyde will require all of his basic training.

Overview:

The Bulldog, often recognized by its distinctive pushed-in face and sturdy build, is a beloved breed with a rich history rooted in England. Originally bred for bull-baiting, their temperament has evolved significantly, making them gentle, affectionate companions today. Physically, Bulldogs are medium-sized, characterized by their broad shoulders, short legs, and loose, wrinkled skin. Their short coat typically comes in various colors and patterns. Despite their somewhat imposing appearance, Bulldogs possess a surprisingly sweet and docile nature, making them excellent family pets and remarkably well-suited for apartment living due to their lower energy levels. However, prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns, including brachycephalic airway syndrome, hip and elbow dysplasia, and skin fold dermatitis, which necessitate regular veterinary care and attention to their unique needs. Their calm disposition and moderate exercise requirements make them a wonderful choice for those seeking a loving and loyal companion.
